The ASAP Group conducts research on a broad spectrum of areas of applied computer science and computational science with current initiatives in the areas of parallel and distributed computing, and massively parallel scientific model development.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Designs, develops, tests and maintains software that utilizes GPU or Intel MIC architectures for Earth System or other related scientific applications. Uses existing compiler tools like CUDA, CUDA Fortran or OpenACC to develop efficient scientific software. May lead development on significant portions of assigned project and develop standards and guidelines for software development activities.

Prepares software design documents, user documentation, and other documentation as needed by the project.

NSC is hosted by Linköping University (LiU) and is one of the largest Swedish academic HPC centre with ~30 staff managing compute resources that will reach 35000 CPU cores this year and multi-Petabyte storage facilities. NSC has been providing supercomputing resources to the Swedish academic community, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute and SAAB for over 20 years. NSC is also part of SNIC ? the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing. NSC is a partner in the EU-project IS-ENES with aim to create a pan-European infrastructure for Earth System Modelling, as well as PRACE through PRACE-1IP and PRACE-2IP. NSC hosts a rapidly growing archive and project storage facility for climate research data and weather forecast simulations. We are now adding an ESG (Earth System Grid) Datanode/Gateway (www.esgf.org) for community access to climate data and are looking for the right person to lead this effort. The Datanode will host large amounts of climate data, initially from the CORDEX and EMBRACE projects where the Rossby Centre at SMHI is a key contributor. Climate modelling is one of ten research communities within SeRC, including scientists from the Bert Bolin Centre for Climate Research (www.bbcc.su.se) at Stockholm University, the Department of Mechanics at KTH and the Rossby Centre at the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI, www.smhi.se). The Bolin Centre research program comprises processes and dynamics governing the natural evolution and variability of our climate as well as anthropogenic influences on the climate system. The Rossby Center at SMHI develops both Global and Regional Climate models, with an emphasis on the generation of global and regional climate projections and the development of a near-term decadal climate prediction system. The primary global climate model used in Sweden is EC-Earth (ecearth.knmi.nl). EC-Earth contributed both climate projections and predictions to the 5th Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5) that will serve as a basis for the Fifth IPCC Assessment Report. Work description: ? Scientific lead in organising support for the data life cycle of climate model data. From creation, quality control, visualization/post processing, archiving and dissemination. ? Work closely with climate application scientists at SERC and SMHI to make sure their current and future needs are well met. ? Implementing advanced visualisation tools for climate data in collaboration with the SeRC visualisation community. ? Assisting climate science groups in the development of novel diagnostic and data-mining applications. ? Participate in national and international projects. ? Senior Network Engineer

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has one Senior Network Engineer position available in our newly established Advanced Digital Services Directorate. This position is a leader and working member of the team responsible for the design, maintenance, and operation of NCSA's high-performance research network in support of NCSA staff, HPC resources, researchers, educational and private sector partners, and NSF-funded projects awarded to NCSA. The incumbent will be a skilled networking generalist who will be expected to be an active member of the network engineering group and who will also have additional responsibilities of group management from an administrative and operational perspective. This leadership position is the primary point of contact for other groups and management to engage with the network engineering team. The position is responsible for setting team goals, interpreting policy, managing budgets and personnel, working with HR and reporting on all aspects of the team?s work scope. Collaboration within the group and with many NCSA units is key in determining the focus of network operations.

Preferable experience:

Parallel filesystem experience, e.g., GPFS or Lustre.

The Senior Solutions Engineer will be responsible for enhancing and supporting the parallel file systems from an engineering perspective.
