Opera Expands Using Latisys Ashburn Data Center

OSLO, Norway and ENGLEWOOD, Co., Dec. 11 – Latisys, a leading provider of outsourced IT solutions delivered on a high-density, high-security platform -- from colocation to cloud -- today announced an infrastructure services agreement with Opera Software, developer of the Opera web browsers.

Opera Mini is one of the most popular mobile browsers with 191 million users worldwide. Opera is now enhancing its services in the Americas to build on the momentum the company has had in the region, improve the user experience and encourage the growth of the Opera Mini user-base. Opera Mini users enjoy the benefit of Opera's compression feature, which saves up to 90% of their time and money by compressing the data before it reaches their mobile phones.

To support the expansion -- and to optimize Opera Mini browser services in Latin America -- Opera requires a high-density, high-availability IT infrastructure platform. Latisys' Ashburn, VA data center campus delivers ultra-high-density colocation and multiple fiber and network connectivity options.

"Opera is dedicated to providing users with the best possible experience on any phone, device or network," said Trygve Jarholt, Director of Hosting, Opera Software ASA. "The underlying IT infrastructure is critical and only Latisys was able to deliver the high-density platform we needed, meeting power requirements of 14KW per cabinet and beyond. In addition, as a leading provider of IT outsourcing (ITO) solutions, Latisys provides Opera with critical 24x7x365 technical support via remote hands to ensure Opera Mini quality of service and support on a global scale."

"Opera is making strategic business decisions based on requirements for optimizing underlying IT infrastructure and Latisys is prepared to tailor our outsourced IT solutions to support their objectives," said Pete Stevenson, Chief Executive Officer, Latisys. "Ultra high-density continues to be one of the most important requirements for IT performance and serves as the cornerstone of Latisys' national IT infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) platform."

Latisys' data center platform is operated under SOC 2 Type 2 and SOC 3 audited controls. This replaces the SAS 70 guidebook and reaffirms Latisys' commitment to meet the highest standards for availability and security, while making sure all of the appropriate controls and safeguards are firmly in place.

Earlier this year, Latisys announced that it is adding 72,000 square feet of highly secure, high density, carrier grade IT infrastructure space along with significant power upgrades. After opening DEN2 -- Latisys' newest state-of-the-art data center in Denver -- and DC5 -- a 22,000 square foot expansion in Ashburn, Latisys' total data center platform now exceeds 343,000 square feet across seven data centers in four major markets.
