Savvis Composes Symphony for IT Infrastructure

ST. LOUIS, Dec. 3 – Savvis, a CenturyLink company and global leader in cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises, today announced the limited release of Savvis Symphony Cloud Storage, which combines global accessibility and unlimited capacity with the reliability and protection businesses demand.

While any business can access Symphony Cloud Storage over the public Internet, existing clients who use the CenturyLink private network will not pay data transfer fees when downloading data. In addition, Savvis clients that host or colocate in a cloud storage-enabled data center do not pay transfer fees to move data between their cloud storage and infrastructure.

Additional key features of the pay-per-use Symphony Cloud Storage offering include:

  • Simple replication choices, providing businesses with the flexibility to choose where their data is stored, while a global namespace model allows end users to analyze the data collectively without needing to know the storage location for each piece of data;
  • Access from anywhere, leveraging Savvis' global scale, stretching across multiple data centers around the world and accessible on any device – including mobile devices such as laptops, tablets and smartphones;
  • Unlimited and affordable storage with no term or capacity commitment required, paying only for what is used;
  • Massive scale, allowing users to scale up or down without the constraints of traditional storage infrastructure;
  • The security of penalty-backed service-level agreements and 24/7 support.

"Enterprises need flexible cloud services – like Savvis Symphony Cloud Storage – that they can easily integrate into their applications," said Daniel Patton, vice president and general manager of cloud services at Savvis. "Symphony Cloud Storage draws on our infrastructure expertise, global IT portfolio and robust network to provide developers with a secure and unlimited storage solution."

Built on the widely used EMC Atmos platform and compatible with the EMC Atmos API framework, Symphony Cloud Storage allows users to integrate solutions from vendors already utilizing EMC technologies.

"EMC is excited to be collaborating with a leading service provider like Savvis, and to be providing a key infrastructure element of its new Symphony Cloud Storage solution," said Ken MacDonald, senior director of marketing, Advanced Storage Division, at EMC. "A robust, scalable storage platform that's accessible by any device type is essential to building a true enterprise-class cloud storage offering. The Symphony Cloud Storage solution takes advantage of the EMC Atmos cloud platform, together with other best-of-breed technologies, to deliver exceptional private, public and hybrid cloud infrastructure environments to customers."

Coinciding with the limited commercial release of Symphony Cloud Storage, Savvis has launched a Symphony Cloud Storage Partner Ecosystem featuring solutions from vendors such as Riverbed, which modernizes data protection and archiving; Oxygen Cloud, which enables smart file access on mobile devices for enterprises; and Panzura, which enables storage consolidation for global network-attached storage (NAS), archive and backup use cases.

Accessible from anywhere in the world, Savvis' cloud storage is hosted in data centers in London, Singapore, Toronto, Washington, D.C., and Santa Clara, Calif. Symphony Cloud Storage complements the VMware-based Savvis Symphony suite of enterprise cloud solutions.

Symphony Cloud Storage currently is open to a limited number of Savvis clients, with full commercial availability in early 2013.
