Amazon Web Services Direct Connect Now Available to Telx Clients

NEW YORK, Sept. 26 — Telx, a leading provider of global interconnectivity, cloud enablement services and data center solutions, today announced the availability of Amazon Web Services Direct Connect offerings for Telx customers in Northern California, as well as providing extended availability to Telx Cloud Connection Centers in adjacent markets.

Telx clients can now connect their client-owned and managed infrastructure directly to Amazon Web Services via AWS Direct Connect, establishing a private network connection that can reduce network costs, increase throughput and security while also providing more consistent network performance than "best-efforts" networks. Clients can benefit from the synergies inherent in Telx' unparalleled carrier density and range of carrier services in landmark locations, together with a range of network options, now including AWS Direct Connect. Moreover, Telx' diverse geographic footprint provides low latency access and broad reach to the vast majority of end-users.

"Telx continues to expand the portfolio of options available to its clients to build next-generation distributed infrastructures. Rather than just a single solution, clients can leverage a range of public and private network transport and interconnection options to deploy optimal hybrid architectures, across a range of multilayer network services, utilizing a mix of colocation, private, hosted private, and public cloud services," said Joe Weinman, senior vice president of cloud services and strategy for Telx. "We are excited to offer our clients direct access to Amazon Web Services, a leading provider and innovator in the cloud."

Connectivity via Amazon's Direct Connect provides a wide range of new deployment scenarios for Telx's clients, including:

  • Connectivity for direct storage - private, high-throughput access to AWS facilitates periodic migration/replication of data to or from AWS into customer-managed storage solutions; this enables a wide spectrum of business continuity/disaster recovery policies and data retention strategies.
  • Big Data - high-bandwidth connectivity provides customers with the ability to efficiently transfer large data volumes into and out of AWS, allowing for import/export of large-scale data sets for high performance "big data" computing applications.
  • High-performance applications - high bandwidth combined with low-latency connectivity for improved I/O and API response times allows customers to use AWS as an extension of their data center LAN and integrate hybrid cloud strategies into a wide range of applications.
  • Custom hybrid architectures - high-throughput access to AWS enables integration of custom hardware solutions into the AWS management system, with real-time streaming of data to and from AWS.
