Bright Computing to Present 'Extending HPC Clusters into the Cloud' at ISC'12

Bright CTO Martijn de Vries will demonstrate how Amazon EC2 nodes can be accessed, provisioned, scheduled, monitored and managed as part of on-premise HPC clusters

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 15 — Bright Computing today announced that Martijn de Vries, Bright Computing CTO, will present a powerful approach to extending on-premise HPC clusters into EC2. The demonstration will step the audience through the few mouse clicks to open an EC2 session and then show how cloud-based CPUs and GPUs are provisioned, scheduled, monitored and managed as part of the on-premise cluster, using Bright Cluster Manager. The discussion will include networking outside of the firewall, seamless GPU management, data aware scheduling and cost containment; key capabilities that are particularly useful for running HPC applications in the cloud.

Martijn will also demonstrate how to create – with only a few mouse clicks – an entirely new HPC cluster in Amazon EC2, fully managed within the Bright Cluster Manager GUI and cluster management shell.

"Customer demand for HPC management solutions that include cloud-based computing has risen dramatically this year," said de Vries. "We're seeing particularly strong interest in our data aware scheduling for the cloud — a capability that only Bright offers."

The presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 19 from 3:45 PM to 4:30 PM at hall C2.1 at the Congress Center Hamburg.
