AppFog Joins OpenStack Community


PORTLAND, Ore., May 8 — AppFog, the leading Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), today announced its expanded support for OpenStack, the open source cloud operating system, at the Goldman Sachs Cloud Computing Conference. During his presentation, AppFog CEO Lucas Carlson will discuss how AppFog's industry first public cloud PaaS integration with OpenStack will allow for increased infrastructure choices for developers using the AppFog platform, as well as bring an open PaaS offering to the OpenStack Community. The company also announced that access to the OpenStack-backed Cloud Foundry, which AppFog runs as a service, will become a public beta service starting next week.

"OpenStack is the most important cloud technology to emerge in the last decade," said Carlson. "We are committed to bringing PaaS as a first class citizen to OpenStack, because it is an environment where developers flourish and one in which they are offered the freedom of choice and compatibility that enables them to deliver innovative products and solutions that fuel the tech industry and grow the U.S. economy."

Backed by over a hundred participating organizations including Dell, Cisco, HP and Microsoft, OpenStack is a massively scalable, open source cloud operating system that is quickly becoming the industry standard for public and private clouds.

"Cloud computing offers many benefits for developers, but mostly it levels the playing field by removing barriers to entry. AppFog is excited to be a part of this innovative industry, offering an open PaaS so that developers have a choice of where to deploy and run their applications. This is juxtaposed to how some massive cloud services vendors seem to focus on squashing innovation, oppressing developers and keeping prices high in an effort to own the cloud. Further extending its commitment to the open cloud, AppFog will participate in the Rackspace Next Generation program. The beta test program, built on OpenStack, is a real and viable alternative to existing proprietary clouds.
