HOUSTON, Feb. 21 — vCompute announced today that it has deployed and enabled a new vPOC (virtual point of compute) location consisting of thousands of cores in Houston, Texas. This new infrastructure is implemented to support continued demand for cloud and high performance computing resources.
The new vPOC location consists of 1000's of cores and is a customized architecture to accommodate the latest industry requirements for virtualization and complex HPC applications. The vPOC infrastructure has the specialized features needed to run complex hyperscale applications while providing flexibility with open standards. vCompute has the ability to scale to 10,000 cores as demand surfaces globally. The new vPOC location is positioned strategically on the net to accommodate high speed connectivity to strategic global locations where existing clients reside such as Japan and the UK.
"The demand for our vPOC services is increasing as industries take advantage of vCompute's scalable resources eliminating the need to capitalize equipment leases and data center space internally. The value of instant access to supercomputing resources of this scale is extreme when you consider the cost to deploy these systems internally and the constant devaluation of computing gear," commented Edward V. Hawes, CEO of vCompute.
vCompute has been profitable and expanding for eight years while other cloud startups are struggling to build centers, attract clients and taking large losses. When asked about vCompute's success the CEO commented, "The primary reason for our longevity is our conservative approach to growth and equipment acquisitions. We are also very focused on quality of service thus we are flexible, experienced and creative when providing these resources to our clients. Our pricing models also reflect the same philosophy."
vCompute has been providing high performance computing services for almost a decade to industries such as geosciences, energy, medical research, manufacturing, financial, government entities, software developers, web developers and more. Most recently they completed a very complex molecular modeling effort for a global chemical company.
It will be interesting to see how the major vendors stack up to this company as they may be hard pressed to compete with vCompute. The services vCompute provides are mature and they clearly have a head start on others trying to enter this space.
