Digital Manufacturing Report to Address Next-Gen Manufacturing, Modeling, and Simulation Technologies

ANN ARBOR, MI – The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS), the largest cross industry consortium in North America and a leader in next-generation manufacturing strategies, announced the launch of Digital Manufacturing Report, a first-of-its-kind web portal and information aggregator devoted to the manufacturing applications for high performance modeling and simulation, digital manufacturing solutions, and advanced manufacturing technologies for small and medium sized organizations. In partnership with Tabor Communications Inc. (TCI), a leading international media company and publisher of HPCwire and HPC in the Cloud, Digital Manufacturing Report will provide the manufacturing industry with comprehensive news, resources, and information about developments taking place in the fast moving field of digital manufacturing, modeling and simulation.

“The inception of Digital Manufacturing Report is the fulfillment of a key commitment we made early on as part of our joint collaborative effort working with the NCMS,” said Tom Tabor, Tabor Communications Inc. CEO “With the introduction of a communications portal dedicated to promoting the use of advanced computational technologies in manufacturing, we are filling a void that has been open for far too long. Digital Manufacturing Report will heighten awareness of the critical need for small-to-medium manufacturers (SMMs) to adopt high performance computing solutions that will enable them to compete effectively in the global marketplace, re-energizing local economies and creating new jobs.”

Digital Manufacturing Report will reach thousands of subscribers globally across the manufacturing, energy, oil and gas, government, academia, and high-tech industries. The broad readership consists users, consumers, solutions providers, decision makers, and prospective adopters who need more information on how digital manufacturing can revolutionize their businesses. “Digital manufacturing is a lot of things,” said Jon Riley, NCMS Executive Director of Design and Engineering Programs. “But you can sum it up as the use of supercomputing applications to solve problems, build solutions, and predict outcomes. The era of digital manufacturing will be as significant a game changer as the assembly line was in the 20th Century, and Digital Manufacturing Report will be a one-stop information nexus devoted to the subject.”

“Today’s announcement represents a significant achievement for the NCMS, and our partnership with Tabor Communications,” said Rick Jarman, NCMS CEO and President.- More -“We believe the publication will have a profound and positive influence upon the manufacturing industry, in particular the hundreds of thousands of SMMs across North America. By providing a collaborative news and information resource in the form of Digital Manufacturing Report, we can help promote the adoption of advanced computing solutions to improve productivity, decrease the time to market, and increase return on investment, enabling the manufacturing industry to re-establish a competitive edge in the global economy.”

CometCloud: Using a Federated HPC-Cloud to Understand Fluid Flow in Microchannels

The ever-growing complexity of scientific and engineering problems continues to pose new computational challenges. Thus, we present a novel federation model that enables end-users with the ability to aggregate heterogeneous resource scale problems. The feasibility of this federation model has been proven, in the context of the UberCloud HPC Experiment, by gathering the most comprehensive information to date on the effects of pillars on microfluid channel flow.

CERN, Google, and the Future of Global Science Initiatives

Large-scale, worldwide scientific initiatives rely on some cloud-based system to both coordinate efforts and manage computational efforts at peak times that cannot be contained within the combined in-house HPC resources. Last week at Google I/O, Brookhaven National Lab’s Sergey Panitkin discussed the role of the Google Compute Engine in providing computational support to ATLAS, a detector of high-energy particles at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
