SGI Offers Free Technical Computing Cloud Services in Japan to Help Customers in Affected Areas

FREMONT, Calif., March 30, 2011 - -SGI (NASDAQ: SGI), a trusted leader in technical computing, announced today that SGI Cyclone Technical Computing Cloud services will be available immediately, free of charge for up to ninety days, to customers in Japan affected by the earthquake and tsunami that struck the northern prefectures earlier this month. With Cyclone, customers who need immediate access to large-scale on-demand cloud compute resources can transition their workloads and data to SGI Cyclone over the Internet.

“Our hearts and condolences go out to those affected by the tragedy in Japan. The SGI commitment to our Japanese customers remains steadfast and we are ready to help in any way possible,” said SGI CEO Mark J. Barrenechea. “By offering free access to SGI Cyclone, we can assist organizations that may have lost capabilities or are experiencing unpredictable circumstances, allowing them to restart critical aspects of their business more quickly and reliably.”

Cyclone is the cloud computing offering for technical computing applications such as computational biology, computational chemistry and materials, computational fluid dynamics, finite element analysis and computational electromagnetics. The service capitalizes on over twenty years of SGI technical computing expertise, and addresses markets that rely on high-end computational hardware, software and networking equipment to achieve rapid results. SGI cloud customers have access to some of the world's fastest supercomputing hardware architectures with robust storage for integrated long term data archiving. The company is making its Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) service models available to customers.
