SAN MATEO, Calif., Oct. 29 -- SpringSource, a leading provider of infrastructure software and the company behind Spring, the de facto standard in enterprise Java, today unveiled the SpringSource Exchange, a new way to discover Spring-powered applications. The Spring Community can now access SpringSource-certified software solutions that enable users to build, run and manage their Spring-powered applications through one point-of-entry located at www.springsource.com/exchange.
"More and more of our Fortune 500 customers are using Terracotta and SpringSource together to build scalable applications with less cost and effort," said Amit Pandey, CEO of Terracotta. "We're very excited to be members of SpringSource Exchange since it provides a powerful new channel for SpringSource and Terracotta to coordinate our work in meeting this critical and growing market need."
Spring is the most widely-adopted enterprise Java application platform worldwide and many Spring users are looking to maximize their use of Spring-powered applications. With the SpringSource Exchange, SpringSource-certified software providers can help the Spring Community expand its success by offering access to their solution with just a single click.
Spring-certified partners who are part of the initial SpringSource Exchange rollout include: Appcelerator, Headway Software, Hyperic, Pentaho, Skyway Software and Terracotta. Details about the founding partners listed on the exchange are available now.
"The SpringSource Exchange is designed to offer our valued Community members and partner ecosystem a simplified way of accessing information about Spring-powered software," said Rod Johnson, father of Spring and CEO of SpringSource. "As our partner list continues to grow, the SpringSource Exchange will evolve into the top destination for the Spring Community to find software solutions that can add value to their experience with Spring."
"Hyperic and SpringSource have a long and successful history of working together, and so we are particularly excited to be a founding member of the new SpringSource Exchange," said Jeff Santelices, vice president of business development for Hyperic. "Earlier this year, SpringSource embedded Hyperic HQ into their platform to provide deeper management visibility for applications built on Spring. Now, through the new SpringSource Exchange, companies have direct access through their relationship with SpringSource to extend award-winning application performance monitoring across their entire datacenter."
The cumulative downloads for Spring has surpassed the three million milestone on SourceForge with more than five million estimated total downloads worldwide across all download sources. In addition to seeing continued growth in Spring downloads, SpringSource has grown 250 percent year-over-year in quarterly bookings and has more than doubled revenue growth for the third consecutive year.

The ever-growing complexity of scientific and engineering problems continues to pose new computational challenges. Thus, we present a novel federation model that enables end-users with the ability to aggregate heterogeneous resource scale problems. The feasibility of this federation model has been proven, in the context of the UberCloud HPC Experiment, by gathering the most comprehensive information to date on the effects of pillars on microfluid channel flow.

Large-scale, worldwide scientific initiatives rely on some cloud-based system to both coordinate efforts and manage computational efforts at peak times that cannot be contained within the combined in-house HPC resources. Last week at Google I/O, Brookhaven National Lab’s Sergey Panitkin discussed the role of the Google Compute Engine in providing computational support to ATLAS, a detector of high-energy particles at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

The study of climate change is one of those scientific problems where it is almost essential to model the entire Earth to attain accurate results and make worthwhile predictions. In an attempt to make climate science more accessible to smaller research facilities, NASA introduced what they call ‘Climate in a Box,’ a system they note acts as a desktop supercomputer.

When it comes to cloud, long distances mean unacceptably high latencies. Researchers from the University of Bonn in Germany examined those latency issues of doing CFD modeling in the cloud by utilizing a common CFD and its utilization in HPC instance types including both CPU and GPU cores of Amazon EC2.
