Fujitsu PRIMERGY Servers Meet Virtualization Demand


SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 10 -- Fujitsu Computer Systems Corp. today announced updates to several PRIMERGY servers in response to the increasing reliance on server virtualization in data centers. PRIMERGY RX200 S4 and RX300 S4 rack servers, and PRIMERGY TX200 S4 and TX300 S4 tower servers, will all be equipped with the latest Intel Xeon processors using Intel Virtualization Technology (VT). All systems will offer larger base memory capacity over the previous generation systems with the TX200 supporting up to 24GB of RAM, the RX200 and RX300 supporting up to 48GB of RAM and the TX300 supporting up to 64GB using current density DIMMs. The new processor technology and greater memory mean that data center managers implementing virtualization can put more applications -- and more transaction-intensive applications -- on a single server without degrading performance.

Consolidating multiple applications and workloads on a single PRIMERGY server using virtualization translates into lower hardware acquisition costs, reduced real estate and power requirements, and simpler data center management. The major challenge of this virtualization trend is that each application must still perform as if it had its own dedicated server hardware. PRIMERGY servers meet this challenge by employing the latest technologies and designs to ensure optimal throughput for the most demanding virtualization scenarios. For example, Cool-Safe, the innovative Fujitsu air flow cooling technology, allows PRIMERGY servers to run cooler, enabling datacenter managers to run more applications on a server, thus reducing the power consumption per application and further cutting overall datacenter power requirements.

The Intel Xeon processors used in the PRIMERGY S4 generation of RX200, RX300, TX200 and TX300 servers feature the Intel VT technology, a set of processor enhancements designed to support and improve software-based virtualization solutions. This technology enables solutions from such vendors as VMware, Microsoft, and Citrix to more efficiently manage multiple virtual sessions running on a single server and enabling more streamlined virtualization software stacks for near-native performance.
